best airline seats

As someone who is 6 foot 3 inches tall but too cheap to buy a first or business class airline ticket i was very interested to read an article on GeekAbout.com for The 10 Most Comfortable Airline Economy Seats

Their winner was Virgin America which is consistent with other reports I have heard. My only quibble is that they list United Airlines, but be aware that they are talking about the more expensive economy plus ticket. One of the worst experiences I have had with an airline seat with no leg room was in an economy seat on United from Hawaii to California.

United Airlines - Will Charge $25 for 2nd Bag

news No Comments »

Here come more extra fees. According to Orbitz:

United Airlines plans to charge a $25 service fee for many travelers who check a second bag on domestic flights.

The fee, which takes effect on May 5, applies to passengers who purchase nonrefundable, economy-class airline tickets for travel within the United States and to or from Canada, Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories.

Travelers with at least Premier-level status in the Mileage Plus program or Silver status with Star Alliance partners will not be charged the fee.

The new policy only affects travelers who purchased plane tickets on or after February 4, 2008.

Since the fee is not included in airfares, travelers will be able to pay by credit card at the self-service kiosk or at the check-in desk. United said only about one in four customers check a second bag.

I don’t expect that this is the last extra fee we will see from the major airlines this year. Let’s just hope that the toilets on airplanes don’t become pay toilets any time soon.
