And you thought you packed too much when you went on a trip. Boing Boing had a blog post recently about President Bush’s Travel Entourage. Once you decide to take 250 secret service agents, 150 national security advisors, 200 other representatives from the executive branch, 50 aids, 15 dog sniffer teams, and 5 cooks, you are probably not going to be able to get by with just carry on luggage. In fact the president’s entourage travels in 3 large jets.

I know a little about POTUS travel and just want to make it clear that not every trip has that kind of entourage. If I was guessing I would say that was for a large international trip, maybe to the G8 summit where issues might arise that would require input from all of the departments. Besides in the time we live in where the President has to deal with every problem, from the response to bad weather to terrorism the staff must be on hand to support whatever decisions have to be made. This has nothing to do with the size of the government it has to do with what we the people of the United States deiced to hold the President accountable for.

Yes, that was my assumption that this would be for a major trip. But, I was surprised that there were even that many National Security advisors, and that that many other members of the executive branch travel with him. I just found it fascinating, no criticism was intended.
