There is a new player in the hotel review space which is TVTrip.com. TVTrip hosts video reviews of hotels. At this time they have “115 destinations, 5530 hotels, 494008 reviews, 4937 videos”. That is a very small percentage of the world’s hotels but the value of actually being able to see the hotel (if they have a review for it) seems of greater value to me than a textual review.
Royal Caribbean is working on a what should be the largest cruise ship in the world. The ship, called Project genesis, is scheduled to launch in 2009. The ship will carry 5,400 passengers and will have 16 decks.
The most unusual aspect of the design is a park like interior with green plants. Many of the staterooms will have balconies over looking this area.
As of this afternoon a video on YouTube that is the latest safety video has been viewed 350,000 times. Huh? A safety video? Isn’t this what most people avoid watching on the airplane? Delta has even blogged about the making of the video and the press it has garnered.
Joe Dion from Fly With Me interviewed the star of the video on his most recent podcast.
Delta Airlines’ latest safety video has been getting a lot of hits on Youtube, and “Deltalina” is the reason. I talk with Chris Babb, the creator of the video, and with Katherine “Kat” Lee, the flight attendant who is featured in the video. Kat has gotten the nickname “Deltalina” because she looks like Angelina Jolie.
I don’t tend to use a travel agent when I book travel, but it is not true that this is because I was traumatized at an early age by this classic Monty Python sketch called “Travel Agency”.
Picture this, you are minding your own business as a tourist on the streets London when suddenly and without warning the crowd around you stops moving, freezing in place.
The day London froze. Inspired by Improv Everywhere and made a reality by 100’s of volunteers. At exactly 3:30pm on a secret cue, almost everyone in the square froze. The few bewildered tourists didn’t know what was happening. For 5 minutes the participants held their positions, and then magically everyone unfroze.

Gary from Everything-Everywhere.com sent me this video that he shot in Micronesia snorkeling with jellyfish in Palau. The jellyfish in Jellyfish Lake on Palau do not have any stingers so you can safely swim with them.
I am trying to schedule time to have Gary come on the Amateur Traveler and talk about his travels.
We have started to plan a trip to Europe in May. The only definite part of the trip is that we are flying through London so my thought have started to turn to London, especially when I saw this wonderful video about the Tower Bridge in London. Ah London. My family went to London shortly after the birth of my son, when he was about 15 months old, and my wife was very pregnant with our daughter.
My wife remembers feeding my son on the steps of St Paul’s cathedral thinking “this is what I would be doing if I was at home… but… I’m in London!”. Ah London.
